Going to - Yes/No Questions

Future Tense - Lesson #11

We use "going + infinitive" to talk about the future.

We worked on making sentences in the previous lesson, and in this lesson, we will practice making yes/no questions.

Here is the pattern to make this kind of question.

Be verb + subject + going + infinitive…?
  • Are you going to come to the party?
  • Is he going to quit his job?
  • Are they going to be late?
  • Is she going to care if I don't come?
  • Are Mark and Tim going to help us?
Like other yes/no questions, there are long and short answers.

Are you going to play?
  • Yes, I am going to play.
  • Yes, I am.
  • Yes.
Is he going to be there?
  • No, he isn't going to be there.
  • No, he isn't.
  • No.
It is also possible to use other future tense sentences when you answer.

Is she going to come?
  • Yes, she will come.
  • No, she won't come.
  • She might come.
  • Yes, she is coming.
Take a look at some examples and practice speaking.
